ISTANBUL (CIHAN) - Istanbul police broke into the illegal demonstration following the press release meeting of the pro-Kurdish DEHAP party on Sunday in quarter of Fatih.
The members of the Democratic People Party (DEHAP) wanted to hold illegal demonstration in Aksaray metro station in Istanbul following the press release. Police intervened into illegal demonstration when the DEHAP members chanted slogans in favor of the leader of outlawed PKK terror organization Abdullah Öcalan who has been serving life sentence Imrali island. The protesters dispersed into downstreets when police used teargas and truncheons. Some protesters hurled Molotov cocktails to police during the chase.
Meanwhile, the sympathizers of DEHAP held a meeting in Adana Inonu park demanding an end to the isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan.
The protesters chanted slogans and carried banners read as "No to isolation in Imrali, no to operation to militants in mountains", "Isolation is war, no to war," and "Peace now".
The group later ended their protest peacefully.
