Turkish Construction Companies Gain $ 2 Billion 850 Million Worth Contracts Abroad In First Half Of 2004

ANKARA (CIHAN) - The Turkish construction companies have won $ 2 billion 850 million worth of contracts in first half of 2004 in separates 125 projects across world, the Turkish State Minister Kürsad Tüzmen said in a statement on Sunday.
Tüzmen said that the recent performance shows that the Turkish companies would easily catch the target of $5 billion worth of foreign contract for 2004.
Turkish construction firms had gained $3 billions 179 million worth of foreign contracts in entire 2003 while the corresponding figure for 2002 was below $ 1 billion.
Turkish construction companies have undertaken $ 58 billion worth of 2 thousand 600 projects in 62 countries across world until now, the Turkish State Minister said in statement. Kürsad Tüzmen cited in a statement Turkish construction companies have took active role at the international tenders. " The construction sector is most important one that provides great venue to Turkish economy. The action plan put into practice in 2003 has been successfully implemented and would continue to be implemented."
In first 6 months of 2004, Turkish construction companies gained 125 projects in separate 25 countries across world. The worth of the projects is equal to $ 2 billion 850 million. Turkish companies have attained most contracts in Romania, Russian Federation, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Algeria.
Turkish companies had won $1 billion 15 million worth of contracts in Russian Federation, 229 millions of contracts in Iraq, $231 millions worth of contracts in Afghanistan, $246 millions of contracts in Kazakhstan in 2003.
Tuzmen said that Turkish companies have great advantage over the foreign counterparts in reconstruction projects of the Iraq and Afghanistan. "Thanks to Turkish companies' reasonable offers and their higher information technology as well as Turkey's proximity to region and its experience, Turkish construction companies are very lucky in attainment of the tenders in Iraq and Afghanistan in upcoming period. This situation forces several foreign companies to cooperate with the Turkish companies to operate in these regions."
