TEHRAN (CIHAN) - Eighty Iranian Azeri people were detained in the western Azerbaijan state of the Iran Islam Republic during the traditional Babek Fortress Festivals.
50 Azeri on Thursday and 30 Azeri nationalists were detained on Friday during the Babek Fortress Festival in western Azerbaijan state in Kaliber region. The detainees were taken under custody on accusations of waging violence during the festival and causing trouble.
Azeri origin Iranian citizens constitute one forth of the entire Iranian population. There are nearly 17 million Azeri people lives in northern region of Iran which is situated in Azerbaijani border.
The festival in Azerbaijani state of Iran ended in Friday evening.
