BAGHDAD - The commander of US forces in the Middle East was making a surprise visit to Baghdad on Wednesday, the US military said, shortly after he announced he was stepping down amid reports of disagreements with President George W. Bush.
Admiral William Fallon "is currently in Baghdad," a US military spokesman, Lieutenant Michael Street, told AFP.
Fallon said Tuesday he is stepping down because reports that he differed with Bush over Iran had become "a distraction."
