ANKARA - Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP-opposition ) Devlet Bahceli said "the political responsibility lies with the government" as far as fight against terrorism is concerned.
"The source of the constitutional legitimacy of the military operation into Iraq's north is the authorization that the parliament has granted to the government. It is important for everyone that recent political discussions on the latest ground operation should be considered on that framework," Bahceli told a parliamentary group meeting on Tuesday.
Bahceli also said the parliamentary authorization allowed the government to decide the scope and duration of the the cross border military operation.
"It is the political directive that the government gave to the military which decided the scope and the duration of the operation. The Turkish Armed Forces has successfully achieved its tasks on its military targets within the limited scope which the government had drawn. If the government had defined a limited scope, it is natural that the targets of the military operation remained limited," Bahceli said.
