PM ERDOGAN: ''I WANT TO KNOW TO WHAT EXTEND PRACTICES IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES OF EUROPE AFFECT ECHR'S DECISION''

ANKARA - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that, ''I would like to ask European Court of Human Rights (ECHR): 'to what extend practices in different countries of Europe affect your decision on headscarf.''
Asked about the decision of ECHR on headscarf, Erdogan said, ''ECHR used its discretion and took this decision.'' He added that in Turkey, the decision of the ECHR will be put into practice within the limits of laws.
European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled on Tuesday that Turkish state universities had the right to ban the headscarf.
Making references to an earlier decision of the Constitutional Court that allowing headscarf in universities was contrary to Turkish constitution, ECHR recalled that high administrative court stated that wearing headscarf in universities contradicted the principles of the republic.
