ANKARA - Chairmen of the labour unions forming the Emek Platform (bringing together major labour unions of Turkey) convened Monday in an extra-ordinary meeting upon the call of Turk-Is labour unions Confederation.
Speaking to reporters before the meeting in Ankara, Turk-Is Chairman Mustafa Kumlu recalled that Turk-Is board of executives took a decision for launching protests against the Social Security and Health Insurance draft law.
Kumlu said they held today's meeting to discuss the said decision with members of the Emek Platform.
"Our 'sine qua non's mentioned in our meetings with the PM and the Minister of Labour and Social Security were not even taken into consideration," said Kumlu.
Kumlu said their actions were not politically or ideologically driven and pointed out that they were trying to protect the rights of the workers.
Chairmen of Kamu-sen, Hak-Is, KESK, DISK, BASK and Memur-Sen and other components of the Emek Platform attended the meeting.
