LEFKOSA - President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Friday that Greek Cypriot side pursued a policy of lies to demolish Turkey's rights on Cyprus.
Denktas issued a written statement and said Greek Cypriots did not feel the need to set up a new partnership through negotiations, stating that, ''there can not be peace on lies.''
Denktas reacted to the statements of Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos which he had made in his meeting with Portuguese President.
Denktas said, Papadopoulos told Portuguese President that the two communities in Cyprus, who had lived together till 1974, were separated because of the intervention of Turkish troops, ''which is a lie''. Denktas indicated that the real cause of the separation is the eviction of Turks by Cypriot Greeks from the Cyprus government.
He also added that ''peace can not be built on lies.''
