THEY COULDN'T EXPLODE SUMMIT BOMB
It was revealed that 6.5 kilograms of bomb was found in the parking lot of Istanbul's Ataturk Airport last Friday, when Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan flew to Istanbul to attend the NATO summit. Police found the bomb which was ready to be exploded by a cell phone, just before Erdogan's plane landed at the airport. After the bomb was defused, the cell phone which was separated from the mechanism rang for twice. The bomb was the same with that left in a bag left on Turkish Airlines (THY) plane on Tuesday.

THEY WERE PLANNING TO HIT
When the plane en route from Munich, Germany, to Istanbul, Turkey was hijacked, four German F-4F planes took off from the airport. If the plane had been targeted to a suspicious place with the force of the hijacker, the German F-4F planes would have hit the passenger plane to prevent recurrence of another September 11.

EXPORTS BREAK MONTHLY RECORD
Exports from Turkey broke a record in the monthly basis with 39.5 percent rise in June. Turkey obtained 5,347 million U.S. dollars of income from exports in June 2004. In the annual-base, Turkey obtained 55,561 million U.S. dollars from exports.

FRUITS OF CONGRESS
The political traffic which lasts one-and-a-half in Istanbul has started to bear fruit. Turkey was among the countries ''which were dangerous to travel to'' last year. This year We have given messages of confidence with five successful international meetings we hosted. Now, Istanbul will host new meetings in the second half of this year. Five thousand people will come to Istanbul for the Informatics Congress to be held in August. Istanbul will host six thousand people in the World Bridge Olympiad in November, as well.

AMERICAN TORMENT
Upon the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) request, people flying to the United states are undergoing a detailed check at Turkey's airports. Passengers who undergo a check by an X-ray device are stopped before their check-in and luggage control. Luggage of people flying to the United States are opened and controlled by hand. After a careful check by police, passengers are let to board.

THEY PLANNED TO HIT BUSH IN AIR
A terrorist attack planned to be staged on the Air Force One was prevented in the last minute. Istanbul police found a tire left in the parking lot of Ataturk Airport two days before the NATO summit. Bomb experts found 5 kilograms of TATP bomb in the tire and defused it. At the end of the investigation, it was revealed that a leftist organization planned to hit Air Force One when it was landing at the Ataturk Airport. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan hid the incident from the public in order not to overshadow the summit.

ORDER FROM IMRALI
Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) leader Jalal Talabani announced Sabah daily that 17 top members of the terrorist organization PKK told him that terrorist Abdullah Ocalan ordered his men to end the cease-fire. Talabani stated that he was not against NATO's training Iraqi police and troops, and added that the training could be carried out in southeastern province of Diyarbakir.

PKK AND DHKP-C AMONG FIRST 20 DANGEROUS ORGANIZATIONS
DHKP-C was listed among the most dangerous organizations in a report on international terrorist movements, while the PKK was defined as a ''nationalist and separatist illegal organization.'' According to a report prepared by U.S. security departments, there were 20 organizations in the world against which countries should fight, including nine fundamental, five nationalist and six leftist.

AMNESTY COMES OUT OF PACKAGE AGAIN
Turkish Parliamentary Planning and Budget Commission added an article to the bill foreseeing amendments to tax laws. Thus, the crime to prepare false documents was included within the scope of amnesty. A lawsuit was filed against Turkish Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan, when he was an administrator at Albaraka Turk, on charges of preparing false documents. The government prepared a motion extending the ''tax amnesty'' till the end of September. So those who can't pay their tax installments are enabled to pay them till the end of September.

AK PARTY CAN'T DIGEST
Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul reacted harshly to the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on headscarf. Gul said, ''Turkey should get rid of this shame. Obstruction is very wrong.'' Gul reacts to the ECHR, which decided in favor of Turkey in the headscarf case. Gul said that non-admission of girls to universities just because they were wearing headscarves was ''a mistake.'' He noted that Turkey would ''get rid of this shame on its own.'' Koksal Toptan of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) said, ''the decision is binding, but we will solve the problem gradually.'' Higher Education Board (YOK) Chairman Erdogan Tezic said, ''ECHR upheld the headscarf ban. The legislative organ can't make any new arrangement related with the issue from now on.''

LIFE SENTENCE TO HONOR KILLINGS
Punishment given to those who commit honor killings will not be reduced from now on. Turkish Parliamentary Justice Commission adopted an arrangement which sentences those who commit honor killings to life imprisonment.

GOOD NEWS FROM EU TO TRNC
According to the report on Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) which the European Union (EU) Commission is expected to make public on July 7th, European countries will start to trade freely with TRNC. First, live animals will be traded, it was learned.

TELEKOM'S LAW
Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer ratified the law foreseeing Telekom's privatization. Foreign investors can join the bids to be held to privatize more than 50 percent of Telekom. The law also paves the way for sale of GSM operator Telsim.

NEW LIRA MINTED AND CIRCULATED
One Turkish lira (TL) banknotes were minted and circulated in the Central Bank branches. Banknotes with a face value of TL 5 (worth of actual TL 5 million) will be minted within this month.

NATO ISTANBUL SUMMIT SAVED WITH 50 SECONDS
It was revealed that a bomb was left in the parking lot of Istanbul's Ataturk Airport two days before the NATO summit. A disaster was prevented thanks to careful work of the Turkish police. If the bomb experts, who defused the bomb controlled by cell phone, had been 50 seconds late in defusing the bomb, the parking lot would have been demolished and the historical summit would have been endangered.

JUDICIAL SYSTEM BEING ADJUSTED TO EU
Turkey has started to adjust its legal system to the European Union (EU) standards. Under the project supported by the EU, judges, prosecutors and prison officials will be trained for three years. The EU has allocated 10.7 million Euro for the project.
