Arinc: National Parliaments And E.U. Should Have A Healthy Dialogue

AMSTERDAM - Turkish Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc said on Friday that national parliaments and European Union (EU) institutions should have a healthy dialogue.
Arinc, who is in The Hague, the Netherlands to attend Conference of the Parliament Speakers of EU Member Countries, said during the meeting that Turkey is looking for important improvement of relations between national parliaments and EU institutions and organs.
The European Parliament (EP) and EU organs should fulfill their duties with efficient support and participation of national parliaments of member countries, Arinc noted.
Arinc said that the Maastricht Treaty incuded this principle; defined the ''maintenance of authority'', and asked legislative organs to work together with nations.
The ''maintenance of authority'' and ''early warning system'' had thus been included in the EU constitution, Arinc stated.
He added that parliaments of member countries had the opportunity to closely supervise whether or not the provisions of the constitution were being implemented.
The effects of an enlarged Europe on national parliaments are also being discussed in the conference which will end on Saturday.
