ANKARA (CIHAN) - Attending a seminary in Ankara, the Turkish State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sener answered reporters` questions on the merger between Pamulbank and Halkbank. He stated that negotiations between the Cukurova Group, the Turkish Banking Regulatory and Supervision Agency (BDDK) and the Turkish Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) were continuing on the issue of the repayment of the Pamukbank debts by the Cukurova Group.
Pamukbank, which has been seized by the Turkish Savings and Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF), is to be merged with Halkbank. The draft bill concerning the merger was presented to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) on Monday.
Sener stated that he had spoken with the BDDK and TMSF chairmen on the latest developments concerning Cukurova but admitted that he did not yet know how the negotiations would turn out.
Answering a question on the amount of public funds required for the merger of Pamukbank and Halkbank, Sener said that he was unable to give an estimate of the amount which would be needed.
