ANKARA - Emine Erdogan, wife of Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said Saturday that women had a special place in the modernization philosophy of Ataturk, founder of the Republic of Turkey.
Releasing a statement on the occasion of "March 8th International Women`s Day", Erdogan said, "in fact, the political rights granted to our women by our modern Republic earlier than many developed Western democracies are the clear indicators of that".
Erdogan also said that women should develop a common stance against discrimination and protect each other`s rights and freedoms in order to solve the problems they were facing today.
-WIVES OF COMMANDERS & SOLDIERS AND TSK`S STAFF IN ANITKABIR-
Moreover, wives of commanders and members of Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), as well as TSK`s women personnel paid a visit to Ataturk`s Mausoleum Anitkabir to mark "Women`s Day".
The delegation, led by Turkish General Staff Chief Yasar Buyukanit`s wife Filiz Buyukanit, laid a wreath at the mausoleum and observed a minute of silence.
Buyukanit signed the special register of Anitkabir afterwards.
She wrote in the register that, thanks to Ataturk`s principles and revolutions, Turkish women, who were previously isolated from social, political and cultural areas, reached the supremacy they deserved.
