ANKARA - Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis said on Saturday that the day Turkey became an EU member would be a great occasion for happiness for Greece.
Bakoyannis, who is currently in capital Ankara on a two-day working visit, had a meeting with Turkish FM Ali Babacan. The two ministers held a joint news conference after the meeting.
During the news conference, Bakoyannis said she had a quite beneficial and constructive meeting with Babacan.
"I assured Mr. Babacan that Greece supported and would continue to support Turkey`s perspective regarding Europe," she said.
Bakoyannis also said Turkey`s becoming an EU member would mean that the country had fulfilled EU criteria, moreover, such a development would bring stability and development to the whole region.
Meanwhile, Babacan said that both Turkey and Greece had a positive approach towards each other currently.
"While our political, economic and cultural relations improve rapidly, we talk about our problems openly and we try to find solutions," Babacan said.
"Greece supports our EU adhesion process strongly. This is really an important issue in order for the peace and stability improve in our region," he added.
