US Not To Take Any Initiative On Cyprus Issue, Casey

WASHINGTON D.C. - Tom Casey, deputy spokesman of the U.S. Department of State, said Friday that USA, at this point, did not plan to take any initiative regarding Cyprus issue.
"We believe it`s very important that there be a resolution of the situation in Cyprus," Casey said, during his daily press briefing.
He said USA believed it was important that both Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders have expressed an interest in speaking to one another and engaging in dialogue on this issue.
"Of course we will be supportive of the efforts of the UN Special Representative to help come to a resolution of this situation. And again, as you know, we`ve supported those efforts over time. Hopefully, we will get to the point where it leads to a final resolution," Casey said.
Replying to a question on whether USA was going to take any initiative on the issue, he said, "I think at this point, our role is to be supportive of the UN process. I am not aware of any new initiatives in the offing".
