ROME - Italian Parliament Foreign Affairs Commission chairman Umerto Ranieri said on Thursday that Turkey`s European Union (EU) membership was very important for relations between the Islamic world and the West.
Delivering a speech at a ceremony in an Italian University, Ranieri said Turkey`s approach to the EU has vital importance for a balanced relationship between the West and the Islamic world.
Ranieri said Turkey`s full membership would prove that Islam and universal values overlap each other, noting that, "any weakness in relationship between Turkey and the EU would be a grave mistake."
