Swedish Diplomat Says Turkey's Membership Will Be The Most Difficult Enlargement Of The EU

KAYSERI - Swedish Ambassador in Ankara Christer Asp said Thursday that Turkey`s accession to the European Union would be the most difficult enlargement the Union had ever made.
Speaking at a conference to promote dialogue between cultures in the central province of Kayseri, Asp qualified Turkey`s membership process as the most difficult one.
Turkey will be the largest country to join the EU and it would send deputies even more than Germany, and that is why, Turkey`s accession to the Union would be the most difficult enlargement, ever, he said.
Asp stated that Turkey made a significant progress and major commitments, adding that the latest general elections showed that Turkish democracy is much more powerful.
Shutting the EU`s door to new members would hamper the Union`s global say and we cannot risk losing EU`s soft power by closing the doors to candidate countries such as Turkey, Asp said.
