BEIRUT - Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu received U.S. Special Envoy to OIC Sada Cumber on Wednesday.
Ihsanoglu said that efforts of the United States to reach Muslims in the world, as well as Cumber's assignment to this post, are pleasing steps for a respectful and meaningful dialogue between western and Islamic communities.
He also wished assignment of a special envoy to OIC would be a beginning of a fruitful cooperation between OIC and the United States.
Ihsanoglu said OIC-states are expecting Cumber to exert sincere efforts to introduce real image of Islam to U.S. society.
On the other hand, Cumber said that he is resolute to eliminate misunderstandings and prejudices between the United States and Muslim world, and to develop friendly relations.
Ihsanoglu invited Cumber to assist the 11th OIC Summit which will be held in Dakar, Senegal, between March 13th and 14th.
Cumber was assigned as U.S. Special Envoy to OIC last week. This assignment is considered as efforts of U.S. President George W. Bush to strengthen ties between the United States and Islamic world.
