Minister Urges Turkish C.B. To "do Self-criticism" On Inflation

ANKARA - Turkish Industry & Trade Minister Zafer Caglayan said Wednesday that the Turkish Central Bank should "do self-criticism" after country's statistics authority announced Monday that consumer inflation figure reached 9.1 percent on 12-month basis.
"Central Bank is responsible of preserving the price stability and it is independent from the government. Unfortunately, criticisms on the issue are targeted at the government, which I consider as a serious injustice. I believe that the Central Bank should do self-criticism on this issue," Caglayan told reporters.
Caglayan also reiterated government's commitment to reduce inflation, saying it would not make any concession as far as its economic program is concerned.
