Turkish Gvt And Armed Forces Acted In Harmory During Operation, Cicek

ANKARA - Turkish State Minister & Deputy PM Cemil Cicek said Turkish government and Armed Forces (TSK) acted in full harmony during the cross-border operation on the terrorist organization stationed in north of Iraq.
"Some people are uneasy about this harmony between the armed forces and government," he told in a program live broadcast in private NTV channel.
Cicek said this was a picture Turkey has longed for. "Every one knew his/her authority and directive."
Minister Cicek said those who should know about the date when the operation would be ended were aware of the timing, but they were only a few people.
Cicek said Turkey is one of the countries affected the most from chaos in Iraq, and the terror problem blocked relations between Turkey and Iraq.
However, Turkey cannot stay away from developments in this country, he told.
"We cannot consider our relations only in regard to terrorism and cannot ignore vital interests of our country," Cicek also said.

-TALABANI'S VISIT-

Cicek said Turkey will express its expectations to end terrorism during Iraqi President Jalal Talabani's visit.
"The authority we are having talks with at the moment is the central government of Iraq. There can be other contact points in states, but this is a different thing," he commented on if their talks also cover Massoud Barzani, the head of the regional administration in north of Iraq.
Cicek said what is important is Iraq's integrity, peace and order and Turkey takes all steps by considering its own interests and regional peace.

-SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC DIMENSION OF FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM-

On the other hand, Cicek said the government attaches importance to social and economic dimensions of the fight against terrorism, however it is not implementing a "special package" for the region.
"It is the main duty of a government to take economic and social measures regarding the region, but if you do it by force or pressure, these measures will be less important," he told.
Cicek said the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) will change economic and social life in the region to a great extent.
