ANKARA (CIHAN) - The State Statistics Institute (DIE) has announced that the industrial production of Turkey during the first quarter of 2004 rose by 10.6 percent from the same period of 2003.
Industrial production in the manufacturing sector rose by 12 percent. In the combined electricity, natural gas and water sectors, industrial production rose by 6.5. Production in the mining sector remained at 9.8 percent.
The manufacturing of office furniture sector saw the highest increase in industrial production during the first quarter of 2004 with and increase of 195.5 percent. The manufacturing of car sector rose by 74.1 percent and the manufacturing of communication equipments rose by 56.9 percent.
The manufacturing of tobacco decreased by 13.4 percent. The manufacturing of forestry products decreased by 8.9 percent.
The increase in industrial production during January-Mach 2004 was mostly the result of the private sector.
