Istanbul Greek Orthodox Patriarch, Bartholomeos Traveled To The Vatican

ISTANBUL (CIHAN) - Istanbul`s Greek Orthodox Patriarch, Bartholomeos yesterday traveled to the Vatican to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first meeting of the Catholic and Orthodox leaders after the Christian Church separated in 1054. The Greek Orthodox Patriarch Athenagoras and Pope Paul VI gathered for the first time in 1964 in Jerusalem.
Bartholomeos traveled to Rome on Monday night at the invitation of Pope John Paul II.
Bartholomeos also officially open the Church of San Teodoro which was given to the Orthodox Church by Pope John Paul II. Officials from the Vatican and Italian government will also attend.
Bartholomeos` visit to the Vatican will last four days. The Mayor of Rome will present a plaque of the city to Patriarch Bartholomeos during his visit.
