ANKARA - Turkey's opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahceli said Tuesday Turkish people were disappointed when ground military operation against terrorist organization PKK into north of Iraq was ended abruptly on its eight day.
"Official statements and information made public were not enough to dispel concerns," Bahceli told his party's parliamentary group meeting.
He claimed that Turkey's reputation was riddled and its credibility was questioned after the termination of the cross-border operation.
Praising Turkish Armed Forces for the operation, Bahceli said, "MHP believes that Turkey must continuously implement a multi- dimensional deterrence strategy in its fight against terrorism, backed by military power and political will."
He said there are three conditions to completely eradicate terrorist organization:
"First, military units must launch an extensive destructive operation into north of Iraq against terrorist hideouts and then these units must temporarily be deployed in the region to establish a security belt.
Secondly, Barzani and Peshmerga must put an end to openly or covered harboring of PKK terrorists.
And thirdly, the United States must provide military and political support to Turkey, beyond intelligence sharing."
