ANKARA - Chief of Turkish General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit said Monday that he would not enter into any arguments with politicians.
Buyukanit briefed the media on the cross-border ground operation at General Staff's HQs in Ankara.
"I do not argue with politicians. That would not be right. I am asking those who say that 'the mission was not completed'. Do you determine our duties?," Buyukanit said, commenting on Republican People's Party (CHP) chairman Deniz Baykal's remarks stating that "the ground operation was not completed".
"I say that 'the operation was completed'," Buyukanit added.
He said 240 terrorists were killed and many caves, facilities and combat opportunities were destroyed through air and ground strikes in 8 days.
On the other hand, Turkish Land Forces Commander Gen. Ilker Basbug said that fighting against the terrorist organization was the duty of Turkish Armed Forces (TSK).
"Our duty is simple. We will find and neutralize terrorists. How long will we do this? Till the terrorist organization is neutralized," he said.
Basbug also said young people became terrorists for 2 reasons.
"That uneducated kid believes in the propoganda. The terrorist organization carries out an effective propoganda. It has a large organization and structuring, but unfortunately our state does not have a propoganda against it," he said.
Basbug said that the second reason was unemployment and poverty.
