BRUSSELS - EU Commissioner in charge of Enlargement Olli Rehn said Monday, thanks to reforms made in the past seven years and Turkey's change into an open society, the status of Kurdish origin citizens improved in Turkey since 2000.
Speaking at a conference titled "The New Civilian Constitution in Turkey and Kurdish Issue", Olli Rehn indicated that the Turkish government took socio-economic steps to improve conditions in south-eastern Turkey.
We welcome remarks made by Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan that a public tv station will soon broadcast programs in Kurdish, Rehn told.
