BUCHAREST - Turkish President Abdullah Gul called on Turkish and Romanian businessmen to carry out an economic cooperation at the highest level.
Attending the Turkish-Romanian Business Forum meeting held in Romanian capital of Bucharest on Monday, Gul said the total amount of foreign investments in Turkey reached 22 billion USD in 2007.
Gul said the potential between Turkey and Romania was quite high as well, stating that the trade volume between the countries reached 7 billion USD.
He said this figure could be increased to 10 billion USD by the year 2010.
Gul also said that he was proud of the successful activities carried out by Turkish entrepreneurs in Romania.
He said the necessary political and legal infrastructure was ready and the highest level officials of Turkey and Romania encouraged the cooperation between the businessmen of the two countries.
"You will assess the opportunities in the best way. Finally, both our countries and nations will benefit from such cooperation," said Gul, addressing Turkish and Romanian businessmen at the meeting.
Apart from businessmen, Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen, Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim, Turkish ambassador in Bucharest Ahmet Rifat Okcun and Romanian Presidential Counsellor Bujor Bogdan Teodoriu attended the meeting.
Following the meeting, Gul held talks with Bucharest Mayor Adriean Videanu.
