ISTANBUL (CIHAN) - The Turkish Communist Party (TKP) held a demonstration in Beyoglu, Istanbul to protest the NATO Summit in on Monday. The demonstration ended peacefully.
Nearly 500 people from the TKP came together at 13:00 pm on Istiklal Street. The chairman of the TKP, Aydemir Güler issued a press statement. Güler said that Istanbul has become a lifeless city like towns in a cowboy films due to security measures taken for the NATO Summit.
Güler also asserted that, "NATO is an occupier force and the imperialist forces that came to Turkey for this summit will come again to take some concession from Turkey. Turkey is preparing to be occupied with this NATO Summit."
A group of 10 people from the TKP walked to the French Consulate and hung banners protesting NATO and the US. The group dispersed peacefully.
