Renown travel critic Rick Steeves who gave a conference at the fair cited Turkey as one of the "must visit" locations in Europe.
If you want to add a bit of flavor to your trip to Europe, you have got to visit Turkey. Turkey is one of my favourite destinations, said Steeves.
Steeves said Istanbul was the fourth largest city in Europe after London, Rome and Paris and noted that it was a safe and highly exciting city.
Steeves praised the hospitality and warmth of Turkish people. He said while cheaper compared to EU countries, Turkey was a center for gastronomy and shopping in its region.
I can't wait to go back to Turkey in April, said Steeves.
Meanwhile Turkey's tourism and promotion attaché Hasan Zongur told AA that 646,000 American tourists visited Turkey in 2007 and said they were expecting this number to reach 800,000 in 2008.
"American tourists love to spend in the countries they visit. While tourists from other countries spend an average of 700 USD, American tourists spend around 1,500 to 2,000 USD each," said Zongur.
