Scheffer Says He Would Be Pleased Should Turkey Decide To Do More In Afganistan

WASHINGTON - NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said Turkey had a very positive record in Afghanistan, and he would be very pleased should Turkey decide to do more in Afghanistan.
Delivering a speech at the Brookings Institution (a policy studies think-tank organization) after meeting with U.S. President George W. Bush in Washington, De Hoop Scheffer asked the allied countries to contribute more to NATO's efforts in Afghanistan.
Answering a question on what their expectations from Turkey were, De Hoop Scheffer recalled that Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) assumed the command of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan twice and that Hikmet Cetin had served as NATO's Senior Civilian Representative to Afghanistan.
Would I be pleased as NATO Secretary General should Turkey decide to do more in Afghanistan from now on? Yes, I would, said de Hoop Scheffer.
