26 POLICEMEN INJURED, 44 DEMONSTRATORS INCLUDING 4 FOREIGNERS DETAINED
ISTANBUL - Four separate demonstrations took place in Istanbul on Monday and 26 policemen were injured and 13 policemen, 1 soldier and 17 citizens were affected by tear gas while 44 people including 3 foreigners were detained in those events, Istanbul Deputy Mayor Cumhur Guven Tasbasi said.
Speaking to the A.A, Tasbasi said four separate incidents happened in Okmeydani, Taksim, Mecidiyekoy and Bosphorus Bridge to protest NATO Summit.
Stressing that they intervened in groups who violated the laws and responded to warnings of police by throwing stones and damaging public properties, Tasbasi said that 26 police officers were injured in those events while 13 policemen, 1 soldier and 17 citizens were affected by tear-gas that police used to disperse demonstrators.
Tasbasi added that police detained 44 people including 3 foreigners.
