ANKARA - Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer stressed Turkey`s sensitivity about elimination of the terrorist organization PKK/KONGRA-GEL from the north of Iraq during his meeting with U.S. President George Bush, his Office stated on Sunday.
Turkish Presidential Press Center said that Sezer recalled obligations undertaken by the United States to eliminate the terrorist organization from the north of Iraq in his meeting with Bush.
The Center said that Sezer expressed Turkey`s expectation that the United States would record progress in efforts to eliminate the terrorist organization from the region as soon as possible.
Sezer expressed Turkey`s wish to further improve bilateral relations with the United States.
Turkish President Sezer expressed hope that Bush`s visit would yield positive results and contribute to regional peace, stability, security and cooperation, and further improve solidarity and cooperation between two countries.
Sezer also expressed Turkey`s expectation that bilateral relations should not be negatively affected by moves of hostile circles.
Turkish President Sezer thanked the U.S. administration for its support to Turkey`s European Union (EU) membership process and Cyprus issue.
Expressing his belief that NATO Heads of State and Government Summit to be held in Istanbul between June 28 and 29 would have a positive contribution on reconstruction of the Alliance and yield positive results, Sezer also expressed his views about some regional issues, particularly Iraq and the Middle East in his meeting with Bush.
U.S. President Bush, who came to Turkey on Saturday, met with Sezer and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Following his meetings, Bush proceeded to Istanbul, where he would attend NATO summit.
