ANKARA (CIHAN) - The US President George W. Bush finally arrived in Turkey on Saturday evening under massive security measures.
The Air force one plane of the President, escorted by two F-16 warplanes, landed at the Ankara Esenboga Airport on Saturday at 9:30 pm.
The US President George W. Bush, his wife Laura Bush, the US Secretary of State Colin Powell and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice were welcomed by the US ambassador to Ankara Eric Edelman and his wife.
The US delegation was met by the Turkish State Minister Besir Atalay in the airport.
Bush and accompanying delegation later moved to the Ankara Hilton Hotel.
Ankara police took massive security measures at the airport and at the destination the US convoy followed in Ankara. The roads were closed to road.
A percussion bomb wounding 3 people on Thursday before the Hilton has mounted the security concerns in Ankara. Numerous calls have been flooding into the Turkish police in Ankara across the country reporting the existence of suspicious bags and packages left unattended in public places.
The US President George W. Bush will be received by the Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan today.
Bush will move to Istanbul later today to attend the NATO summit on June 28-29.
