Greek Cypriot Leader Papadopulos Criticises British Government For Invitation To Talat

NICOSIA (CIHAN) - The Greek Cypriot Administration leader Tasos Papadopulos has asked the United Kingdom not to recognise the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC).
The Greek press reports that the Greek Cypriot leader, Papadopulos has criticized the UK due to its London invitation extended to the Turkish Cypriot Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat.
According to the Greek Politis Newspaper, Papadopulos declared that the UK wanted to recognise Denktas' state and that this was the reason for London's invitation to Talat.
The newspaper also stated, "The KKTC Prime Minister Talat will meet with the British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw in London next Thursday. The British Government has stated clearly recently that it aims to end the isolation of Turkish Cyprus and to help the efforts of Turkey in its bid for EU membership."
The visit of the Turkish Cypriot Prime Minister Talat is considered to be very important in order to obtain the lifting of embargoes on Turkish Cyprus and the ending of the isolation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC), which is only officially recognized by Turkey. The KKTC government is hoping to obtain these objectives with the advent of the new era arisen from the rejection of the UN-backed Cyprus peace plan by Greek Cypriots in the April 24 referendum.
