ISTANBUL (CIHAN) - Istanbul Security Anti-Terrorist Department detained one PKK/Kongra-Gel militant- who had been sought in relation to armed clashes in the eastern Anatolian cities of Mardin, Batman and Sýrnak- along with four helpers, during an anti-terrorist operation in Istanbul.
Istanbul Security Anti-Terrorist Department had determined the address of PKK/Kongra-Gel militant Mehmet B. who had recently transferred to Istanbul with a view to carrying out terrorist actions in the city. Mehmet B. and four helpers were then detained in the operation in Istanbul.
Istanbul police also seized 2,000 US Dollars, one false identity card, along with a lot of documents and illegal publications concerning the PKK organization in the suspect's house. It is thought that Mehmet B. carried out a rocket attack on two military vehicles in 1998 in the eastern Turkish city, Mardin. In addition, he is wanted in relation to an attack on the offices of the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) in the Raman Mountains in Batman and for other armed attacks in Batman.
The 5 detainees were transferred to the State Security Court after interrogation.
