Anti- Nato Banner Unfurled At Maiden's Tower In Istanbul Strait

ISTANBUL - A group of women unfurled an anti-NATO banner at the Kiz Kulesi (Maiden's Tower) in the Istanbul Strait on Friday.
Four women who are members of ''Association of Working Women'' at first attempted to fly kites with notes reading, ''no to NATO'' on the Uskudar coast together with their children, but they failed to do it due to strong winds.
Later, they went to the Maiden's (Leander's) Tower off the Uskudar coast with boats and unfurled a banner that read, ''go away rapist NATO''.
Police said the women had not been detained as operator of the tower did not make complaint about them as their demonstration did not last long.
Meanwhile, a group of people who are members of ''Socialist Platform of the Oppressed'' gathered in Kadikoy district of Istanbul and chained themselves to each other to protest upcoming NATO summit.
The group unfurled anti-NATO banner and later dispersed peacefully.
