DIYARBAKIR (CIHAN) - Two members of the Turkish Freedom and Solidarity Association were detained in the city of Diyarbakir on Friday for distributing anti-NATO handouts in mosques.
The members of the Freedom and Solidarity Association distributed brochures against the NATO summit in Istanbul in mosques in the southeastern Turkish city of Diyarbakir. Police detained two people and took them to a police station for interrogation.
The handout slogans read, among other things, "No to oppression" ,"No to collaboration with invaders". The brochures claimed that the US-masterminded Middle East Initiative would prompt new invasions, more acts of torture and more massacres in the Midde East.
Detainee Abdulhakim Beyazyüz claimed that he had not committed any illegal action. He said that the police were not aware of the legal rights of people.
Meanwhile, nine members of the illegal Hizbut Tahrir organization were detained in the north western Turkish city of Bursa on Friday during an anti-NATO protest.
