9 Members Of Illegal Hizbut Tahrir Organization Detained During Anti- Bush Demonstration In Bursa

BURSA (CIHAN) - Nine members of the illegal Hizbut Tahrir organization were detained in the north western Turkish city of Bursa on Friday.
Members of the Hizbut Tahrir organization had initiated a protest against the Istanbul NATO summit and the visit of the US President George W. Bush. Waving pro-Islamic banners in their hands, the protesters began to chant slogans in front of the Ulu Mosque in Bursa following Friday prayers. Police then intervened and detained 9 members of the Hizbut Tahrir group who chanted slogans in favor of the Caliphate. The protesters spoke out against the USA for having turned Iraq into a bloodbath.
Police took the protesters to police headquarters for interrogation.
In an anti-terrorist operation in the province of Bursa relating to Ansar Al Islam last month, Turkish police foiled a bomb plot against the upcoming NATO Summit in Istanbul. Police detained a total of 16 people suspected of planning to attack the NATO Summit and synagogues in Bursa.
Turkish police have taken unprecedented security measures for the NATO summit that will bring the leaders of 46 countries including US President George W. Bush, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and French President Jacques Chirac together in Istanbul.
