ISTANBUL (CIHAN) - The name of the woman carrying the bomb which exploded aboard a public bus in Istanbul yesterday, leaving 4 dead and 21 wounded, has been released.
The woman was officially identified as 29 year old Tunceli-born Semiran Polat in a statement issued by the Istanbul governor's office on Friday.
The Istanbul governor's office also revealed that Semiran Polat, who was killed in the explosion, was a member of an illegal leftist terrorist organization, had been involved in terrorist attacks in the past and was wanted by the police.
Semiran Polat carried out a remote-controlled bomb attack on a military personnel carrier on August 6 2003. She also planted two small bombs in the Istanbul office of the ruling Justice and Development Party on August 21, 2004.
The people killed in the Istanbul bus bomb blast have been revealed as Firdevs Ilgin(73), Kemal Polat(65) , Zehra Sahin(40) and Semiran Polat aka Behice Çatalcam(25).
Police have identified the organization behind the bombing but have not yet publicly revealed its name. It is reportedly an illegal leftist group with Marxist leanings.
