Kyrgyz President Due In Istanbul For Nato Summit

BISHKEK (CIHAN) - Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev will attend the NATO Summit in Istanbul on June 28-29.
Akayev will carry out bilateral talks and will also receive an honorary doctorate degree from Istanbul University.
The Kyrgyz President will be accompanied by a 20-men delegation. The small-sized central Asia republic has maintained close relations with the alliance since 1994 under the name of "Cooperation for Peace". Kyrgyzstan opened its airspace to NATO forces during the Afghanistan operation. It also allowed the US force to deploy in Bishkek Manas Airport.
Krygyzstan is hoping to boost ties with NATO and is considering applying for membership to the alliance.
