Constitutional Court Does Not Accept Demand Of C.H.P. To Halt Tax On Motor Vehicles

ANKARA (CIHAN) - The Constitutional Court did not accept the opposition Republican People Party (CHP)'s demand to halt the legislation of certain legal articles including one concerning a tax on motor vehicles.
The CHP had filed a suit to override some articles of the law that regulates taxes on motor vehicles but the constitutional court dismissed the suit on Wednesday.
The Vice Chairman of Constitution Court, Hasim Kýlýc stated on Wednesday that the court rejected the suit.
The CHP claimed that the motor tax law, which is based on engine size, is unfair, because while two cars may have the same engine size, one may be a luxury car and the other may not.
If the law had been repealed, a total burden of 1 quadrillion 635 trillion Turkish Liras would be added to the budget.
