One Pkk/kongra-gel Militant Killed In Bingol

BINGOL (CÝHAN) - One PKK/KONGRA-GEL militant was killed in fighting in the southeastern Turkish province of Bingöl Tuesday night.
Turkish troops, patrolling the region, engaged in gunbattle with a group of PKK/KONGRGA-GEL militants in the rural area of Karlýova. One terrorist, who was reported to be of Syrian origin, was killed while the others escaped in the darkness.
Two militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK/KONGRA-GEL) were killed in the southeastern Turkish city of Bingol last week.
One Turkish soldier died and another was wounded in a mine blast near Bingöl on Saturday.
Terror attacks by the PKK have increased recently in the southeastern region of Turkey following an announcement by the PKK/KONGRA-GEL that they have ended their six-year unilateral ceasefire. The PKK/KONGRA-GEL called off its unilateral six-year ceasefire in early June.
A few hundred PKK terrorists are believed to be active in eastern Turkey. However, intelligence sources say that some PKK militants, up to 1,500, have infiltrated Turkey from neighboring Iraq in recent weeks.
The separatist activities of the outlawed PKK/KADEK terror organization claimed nearly 30,000 lives in the region. However, the insurgency of the terror organization has declined sharply following the capture of organization leader Abdullah Öcalan.
