LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas received on Wednesday Turkish State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener, who is currently in TRNC on an official visit.
Denktas said that they expected promises that were made for Turkish Cypriots before referenda held on the island on April 24 to be fulfilled. He stressed that they attached great importance to agreements that would be signed with Turkey and aid that would come from Turkey to TRNC.
Sener said that TRNC's Ercan Airport was one of most important airports of the Middle East.
''We hope that TRNC will be an important center of the island in the new period. Isolation which have been continued in TRNC for years will be ended. Thus, TRNC economy will start to improve rapidly,'' Sener stated.
Sener stressed that economic program should be reviewed in this new period, noting that what was important was to make good use of current opportunities.
Denktas said that there were some difficulties, stressing that they expected Turkey to extend aid to TRNC.
Denktas added that TRNC government was working for promises that were earlier made for Turkish Cypriots to be fulfilled.
