BERLIN - A group of Turkish MPs arrived in Germany on Monday to hold various talks with German executives and visit several German institutions.
The group headed by Mehmet Zafer Uskul, the chairman of Turkish Parliament`s Human Rights Committee, first visited Munich and attended a reception hosted by Turkey`s Consulate General in this German city.
"We will discuss the reviewed German immigration law with local and federal executives, and express Turkey`s views about this law in regard to human rights," Uskul told participants of the reception.
The group later paid a courtesy visit to Bavarian State Parliament and met Herbert Etengruber of the Christian Social Union (SU), Franz Schindler of Social Democratic Party (SPD) and Margerethe Bause of the Greens who are all responsible for human rights.
Turkish MPs debated Turkish language courses in schools, problems faced due to new immigration law and the fire disaster in Ludwigshafen that killed nine Turks.
The group will visit Rheinbach prison near Bonn on Tuesday and meet Turkish inmates. On Wednesday, the MPs will proceed to Dusseldorf and visit North Rhine Westphalia State Parliament and have talks with Turkish inmates in Dusseldorf prison.
Turkish parliamentarians will meet Herta Daeubler-Gmelin, the head of the Human Rights Committee at the German Federal Parliament; German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble; Sebastian Edathy, the head of the Interior Affairs Committee at the Federal Parliament; and Maria Bohmer, the German Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration, in Berlin on Thursday.
On Friday, the delegation will visit Tegel prison, Berlin State Parliament.
The MPs will return to Turkey on Saturday.
The group includes Halide Incekara and Mustafa Atas of the Justice & Development (AK) Party, Mehmet Ekici of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), and Akin Birdal of the Democratic Society Party (DTP).
