ANKARA - Cold weather and heavy snowfall negatively affect daily life, especially the eastern Turkey where temperatures dropped down to minus 25 degrees Celsius overnight.
Temperature was measured -25 in Erzincan, -24 in Erzurum and -22 in Ardahan, all eastern provinces. Meteorologists expect snowfall in the region on Monday, saying temperature would fall a few degrees more along with snow.
Meanwhile, cold weather and heavy snowfall caused communication breakdown with 16 villages in mid-east province of Sivas. Another 23 villages were out of electricity, sources said.
On the other hand, in Uludag in northwestern province of Bursa, a winter sports center, snow thickness reached 167 centimeters. Officials warned winter vacationers who would be on their way back home after 15 days of mid-year school holiday.
