ANKARA - The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy chairpersons said, "we call on all deputies who will say 'yes' to constitutional amendment (to ease headscarf ban at universities) to have common sense."
CHP deputy chairpersons Kemal Anadol, Kemal Kilicdaroglu and Hakki Suha Okay held a press conference in the parliament ahead of the second round voting for the amendment.
"What is wanted is to take back Turkey to medieval darkness," Anadol said.
CHP is concerned on developments and calls on deputies to give up attempts which will drift society to a turmoil, he said.
On the other hand, Okay said CHP had a full confidence in constitutional institutions.
