ANKARA - Turkey would welcome the constitution to be prepared by an elected Iraqi government and approved by all the Iraqi people, Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Tuesday.
Gul said that everybody knew that Kirkuk was a very sensitive region when asked if Turkey was against formation of a federation in Iraq and what its reaction would be in case a federation is formed and Kirkuk was under control of Kurds.
``UN (United Nations) Security Council`s recent resolution also backed Iraq`s territorial and political integrity. We think that all the Iraqi people will decide about Iraq`s future,`` Gul noted.
Gul stated that every country had its own historical facts and every country could have some characteristics stemming from its old and new constitutions.
All the Iraqi people would make their decision by a free election, Gul said.
Gul said that they reiterated on several occasions that Turkey and regional countries were against any arrangement that would lead to division of Iraq in the future.
Gul said, ``there are differences between federations. There is such a federation in which division is unavoidable in the end while there is another arrangement which closes its door to a division,`` when asked if a federation to be formed in Iraq would divide the country.
