ANKARA - Turkish justice minister and government spokesman Cemil Cicek has said that the 31st Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Istanbul had ended in a quite successful way for Turkey and the results of the meeting were achievements of both Turkey and the Turkish government.
Holding a press conference after Monday's meeting of the Turkish Council of Ministers, Cicek recalled that important decisions had been made especially on the Cyprus issue and a Turkish official had been elected OIC Secretary General for the first time during an OIC meeting.
Cicek stressed that decisions made during the OIC meeting and results of it had proven that Turkey had increased its influence over the Islam world.
Recalling that Istanbul would host NATO Summit next week with the participation of heads of state and government of 46 countries and more than 4 thousand journalists, Cicek said, ''this summit is of great importance in regard to our efforts to promote Turkey to the world. During the summit, important decisions will be made in regard to Turkey's vital interests.''
