WASHINGTON - Deputy Chief of the Turkish General Staff Gen. Ergun Saygun departed from Washington Thursday after completing his talks in the U.S.
During his talks, Gen. Saygun attended the Turkey-U.S. high-level defense group meeting where issues such as military cooperation, foreign military sales credits, cooperation in training and defense industry were discussed.
Gen. Saygun had met Admiral Mike Mullen, the chairman of U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) Gen. John Craddock, his U.S. counterpart Gen. James Cartwright, Nicholas Burns, under secretary of State for political affairs and other high level U.S. officials.
Combat against terrorist organisation PKK was also discussed during the talks.
Gen. Saygun, Gen. Cartwright and commander of the coalition forces in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, had been assigned with coordination of combat against terrorism and intelligence-sharing, after a meeting that took place between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President George W. Bush at the White House on November 5th.
Gen. Saygun also visited certain U.S. military bases and facilities.
Gen. Saygun is expected to leave for Turkey with a connecting flight from New York.
