BRUSSELS - Belgian court released members of terrorist organization DHKP-C on Thursday.
The court in Anvers acquitted Dursun Karatas, Zerrin Sari, Sukriye Akar and Bahar Kimyongur. On the other hand, terrorists Fehriye Erdal, Musa Asoglu and Kaya Saz were sentenced to (postponed) imprisonment terms ranging from 21 months to 6 years.
On February 28th, 2006, the Criminal Court in Bruges sentenced ten members of the DHKP-C including Fehriye Erdal, Dursun Karatas, Musa Asoglu, Kaya Saz, Bahar Kimyongur, Zerrin Sari and Sukriye Akar Ozordulu to imprisonment, ranging from 4 years to 6 years for crimes they committed in Belgium. The Gent Supreme Court of Appeals ratified and increased some of the sentences on November 7th, 2006.
While Asoglu, Saz, Ozordulu and Kimyongur were serving their imprisonment sentence at that time, Erdal, Karatas and Sari, who were kept under police surveillance, escaped two days before court decision.
Fehriye Erdal, one of the suspects of the killings of Turkish businessman Ozdemir Sabanci, Toyota-Sa DG Haluk Gorgun and his secretary Nilgun Hasefe, on January 9th, 1996, was arrested with a false passport in Belgium on September 26th, 1999.
The terrorists were tried of crimes like using false ID, carrying weapons and explosives, being a member of a terrorist organization, planning terrorist attacks and collecting money by force.
