BRUSSELS - The European Commission declared on Thursday that there were different practices and standards regarding the headscarf issue in Europe and the Commission was not interested in such an issue.
During the daily press briefing, Krisztina Nagy, the spokesperson for the EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn, said EU did not have any acquis regarding headscarf and thus the Commission did not have to reveal any opinions on the headscarf issue.
Nagy said it was an issue that had to be discussed by the Turkish nation.
Upon a question on several news claiming that the arrangement on headscarf was carried out as a part of Turkey's harmonization process with EU, Nagy said the Commission did not mention any stance towards such an issue in the previous progress reports on Turkey.
