ANKARA - Prof. Dr. Isa Esme resigned as the deputy chairman of the Higher Board of Education (YOK) on Thursday.
"I have been on leave since December 28th, 2007 since YOK Chairman Prof. Dr. Yusuf Ziya Ozcan asked me not to use my authorities as the deputy chairman," Esme told A.A correspondent.
Esme said he would not extend sufficient support for further steps and decisions of the YOK General Assembly, the majority of the members who had been replaced recently.
"I also got the impression that Ozcan would work more harmoniously with new deputy chairman," he told.
Esme said, "YOK deputy chairmanship is an executive position and it can take action only with the decisions of the general assembly. Therefore, I do not have the opportunity to continue my duties."
Esme, who worked as the deputy chairman of the board since August 15th, 2005, will continue to serve as a member of the general assembly from now on.
